Meet Joran

Joran studied Business Engineering at Ghent University and has accumulated five years of professional experience in the field of data and AI. He is the cofounder of the Generative AI Meetup Group, which has grown to over 3,000 members, and has previously launched his own Generative AI startup. In his past roles, Joran served as both Generative AI Lead and AI Lead, driving innovation and implementation across organizations. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, sports, walking, and cooking.

We asked Joran some thoughtful questions:

Joran, how did you discover your passion for data?

I discovered my passion at the intersection of data, entrepreneurship, and people. For me, data is the medium through which I create value. It’s often called the new gold, but to me, it’s more like a playground of endless possibilities and innovation. It’s a privilege to be alive in a time where we can do so much with it.

Entrepreneurship is what makes it fun. I’ve always been drawn to small, fast-growing companies where everyone knows each other and works closely together. It creates an atmosphere you just can’t find in larger organizations. Being part of that journey, helping to build something from the ground up, is incredibly fulfilling.

But above all, it’s the people that make it worthwhile. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing people grow, watching them succeed in a project, and knowing that they’re proud of the impact they’ve made. That human element is what truly fuels my passion.

Why did you specifically choose Plainsight?

I chose Plainsight because it’s a young company with a lot of potential. Being just two years old and with around 25 employees, there’s a unique dynamic where everyone knows each other, and that creates a strong sense of connection and shared purpose. What excites me is the opportunity to help shape the company as it grows. In a team this size, things can move quickly, and decisions aren’t lost in layers of hierarchy. They're made together. That kind of environment, where you can make an impact and be part of building something meaningful, is exactly what I was looking for.

What was your first month at Plainsight like?

My first month at Plainsight, I came in with a lot of ideas and what struck me immediately was how openly they were welcomed and appreciated by the team. It’s refreshing to be in an environment where input is not just heard, but genuinely valued. I had the chance to connect with some truly brilliant minds, both within the team and through conversations with our customers. From day one, I was involved in shaping AI roadmaps for clients, which made the work feel meaningful and impactful from the get-go. What stood out most though, was the energy: a small team with big ambitions, all pulling in the same direction. It’s a great feeling to be part of that momentum.

What’s your go-to productivity hack or time management tip?

My go-to productivity hack is without a doubt Notion: it’s my second brain. I use it for everything: from organizing business ideas to creating my own book summaries, storing all my recipes, and tracking both personal and professional to-do’s. Even my gym workouts and kickboxing routines are all in there. Whenever something pops into my head that I want to remember or revisit later, Notion is where it goes. I’ve built templates for just about everything, which helps me stay organized, focused, and consistent, no matter what I’m working on.
