Meet Arne
Arne holds a Master's in Business Engineering from Ghent University, specializing in Data Analytics. He works across Databricks, PySpark, and Power BI, with a knack for turning messy business questions into structured data solutions. We asked Arne some thoughtful questions
Arne, how did you discover your passion for data?
Since I was a child, I’ve always been fascinated by technology and machinery, curious about how things worked beneath the surface. At university, I took my first steps into programming and discovered the power of computers. A natural next step was learning about machine learning and AI and the algorithms that power them. I love seeing how these technologies can be applied to build intelligent platforms that solve real-world problems, automate complex tasks, and enhance human capabilities. This enhancement of human capabilities is important to me because I believe technology should serve as a tool that empowers people rather than replaces them. By extending what humans can do, whether through smarter decision-making, greater efficiency, or opening access to knowledge and opportunities, we create systems that truly amplify human potential. I find this balance between human creativity and machine intelligence the most exciting aspect of working with data.
Why did you specifically choose Plainsight?
During my studies, I’ve learned the value of collaboration, especially during group projects where diverse perspectives and strong teamwork were essential to achieving results. Those experiences have made me realise how important it is for me to be part of a company with the right team spirit, one where people support and challenge each other to grow. That’s why I was immediately drawn to Plainsight. As a fast-growing scale-up, they combine the agility to explore new ideas with the spirit of a close team that allows people to grow together, which makes it an environment that excites you to contribute and learn.
What was your first month at Plainsight like?
From the moment I joined Plainsight, I felt welcome right away, it was as if I had known everyone for years. My first month involved participating in the Plainsight Academy, an extensive training program for young graduates taught by Plainsight’s own experts. The Academy was an incredible experience, giving me the chance to refresh the fundamentals I had learned at university while diving deeper into more advanced topics. One aspect I especially enjoyed was getting hands-on experience with a wide range of tools and technologies, from Power BI and Microsoft Fabric to Databricks and beyond. Everything that is necessary to succeed as a consultant. To conclude the academy, I participated in solving a real-life use case during a 3-day workation at a remote location together with the entire Plainsight team. We combined productive work sessions during the day with engaging team-building activities in the evening. An unforgettable experience that strengthened both our skills and our team spirit. The Academy has provided me with the foundation and skills to start my journey with confidence, and I am excited to see what comes next.
If you had a cheat code for real life, what would it unlock?
If I had a cheat code for real life, it would let me stop time for a while. Imagine sitting in traffic on the way to work, cars frozen all around while I just cruise through an empty road. Or pausing time in the office to finish all my tasks without deadlines breathing down my neck. No more rushing, no more stress, just hitting pause whenever life gets too crowded. Plus, it would be hilarious to see someone jumping around in their car trying to figure out the secret combo to unlock the cheat.
