Meet Charles
Charles studied Business Engineering at Ghent University and likes operating where business, technology and people meet. Over the past six years, he has worked in IT transformations, project delivery, service & testing management, and leadership roles within a complex enterprise environment. He enjoys bringing structure to complexity, connecting different stakeholders and turning ambitious ideas into practical results. If there’s one thing he’ll never stop repeating, it’s this: everything you do with a smile, you’ll do better. Outside work, you’ll most likely find him somewhere “out there”, surrounded by friends & family, chasing a next sporty adventure.
We asked Charles some thoughtful questions
Charles, how did you discover your passion for data?
It’s not necessarily a pure passion for data, but let’s say that I became fascinated by how organizations make decisions and especially how technology can help make those decisions smarter and more efficient. Let me rephrase it a bit: what I enjoy most is not the technology itself, but really what it enables. Whether it’s data, AI, simple API integrations or frictionless digital journeys, I love helping people and organizations move forward by turning complexity into something practical and valuable. What excites me most today is how rapidly the worlds of data and AI are evolving. We’re only scratching the surface of what’s possible, and I look forward to helping clients make the most of these opportunities.
Why specifically did you choose Plainsight?
I have a better question... “Why would someone not choose Plainsight?” No no, all jokes aside, after spending six years in a larger corporate environment, I felt ready for a new adventure. I was looking for an environment where I could continue learning, discover new industries, work with different clients, and be pushed to re-invent myself professionally. From my very first conversations, I felt a lot of energy, ambition, and authenticity within the team. The more I read and learned about Plainsight, the more it felt like a perfect match. The combination of strong technical expertise, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a genuine focus on people immediately stood out. I couldn’t be more excited!
What was your first month at Plainsight like?
I’ll describe it with an ancient Flemish word: “Goesting!”. What immediately struck me at Plainsight was the openness and accessibility of everyone. People are always willing to share knowledge, discuss ideas, and help where needed. What I particularly enjoyed was how quickly (read: practically day 1) I got exposure to different clients & projects. Every conversation or meeting seems to bring a new opportunity; that’s exactly what I was hoping for when making this move. And most importantly, I already feel surrounded by people who genuinely enjoy what they do. That positive energy is contagious and makes me very excited for what lies ahead. Enter: goesting.
What’s your favorite hobby or activity outside of work?
A hobby, or perhaps more accurately a passion that got slightly out of hand: trail running. During Covid, football wasn’t allowed, so I started running as an alternative. What began as a way to stay active slowly evolved into running trails of 30, 50, 80, and even more than 100 kilometers. Together with a group of friends, we even gave ourselves an official team name: “Trailke Nolf”, proudly operating under the slogan “Broeders & Trails”. For the fans: you can always find us on Strava. The funny thing is that I was never the most talented runner. Even today, many people are naturally better and faster at it than me. But trail running taught me an important lesson: consistency beats talent surprisingly often. Just keep showing up, put in the hours, and eventually crazy things can happen. That said, the distances themselves or specific races are not what makes trail running special to me. The best moments are spending entire days in nature with friends, sharing stories, “een pote zeveren”, suffering together on the climbs, and enjoying the incredible views and places along the way. The above also explains why I enjoy hiking & skiing with my girlfriend Louise so much. From the Tour du Mont Blanc and the Balkan Trail to Peru’s Salkantay Trail, and adventures in Iceland, Canada, Morocco or Austria, being outside in nature is where I really recharge.
