MEET WATSE

Watse studied Business Administration at Ghent University with a Master in Management and IT and has over 5 years of experience in data analytics. He started before the AI Hype train and had to learn through Google Search Engine and Stack Overflow and now feels old.

We asked Watse some thoughtful questions:

Watse, how did you discover your passion for data?

As many students might experience, choosing a direction for your career is not easy. On my study path, I chose an optional subject called Data Mining and praised the lord that I found my direction. Since then, my interest in data analytics only grew. Fastforward five years, my passion has only grown and I feel privileged to be on the forefront of the AI revolution

Why did you specifically choose Plainsight?

Two big aspects drew me to Plainsight. Firstly, the drive of the founders is remarkable. It is impossible not to be intrigued by the curiosity and knowledge for data analytics. Knowledge sharing is demonstrated through the many networking events Plainsight takes part in and often in a leading role. Secondly, what may seem trivial to some but was very important to me, was having an office within biking distance and being able to take the time to connect with colleagues and learn from them instead of spending hours in traffic.

What was your first month at Plainsight like?

Making the switch from a large company to Plainsight was very refreshing. What I’ve really loved in my first month is the sense of closeness in the team. You quickly get to know everyone, new ideas are shared, and knowledge transfer is close by.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Ricky Gervais once asked the same question to Karl Pilkington. He did not answer with the power of invisibility or being able to fly. He wanted to be ‘Bullshit man’. He would describe it as: “a bloke who flies around, swooping in whenever people are talking nonsense. He wouldn’t fight crime in the usual sense — instead, he would interrupt politicians, celebrities, or anyone spouting rubbish, shout 'Bullshit!' and then fly off again. In addition, he says that when he tells someone they are talking bullshit, they also realize it themselves. What a great superpower it would be in this day and age!
