Meet the team: Roy🚀

Meet Roy

Roy is a data professional with over five years of experience in data engineering, analytics and AI across telecom, banking, healthcare and public-sector organizations. Before joining Plainsight, he worked as a data consultant and technical lead on large-scale data applications supporting clients across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He enjoys working on end-to-end solutions that not only solve complex technical challenges but also create clear business value.

Outside of work, Roy is often found enjoying football, discovering new music or traveling. He likes planning trips in detail (sometimes with travel spreadsheets that get slightly out of hand), whether it’s hiking in nature, wandering through new cities or relaxing somewhere by the sea. For him, curiosity doesn’t stop at data; it’s part of how he approaches life in general.

We asked Roy some thoughtful questions:

roy, how did you discover your passion for data?

My interest in data really began back in high school, where I was drawn to mathematics, especially the applied and problem-solving side of it. I was fascinated by how formulas and logic could describe realworld phenomena and help make sense of complexity. Studying Computer Science felt like a natural next step and during my Master’s I decided to focus on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. Fields that bridge analytical thinking with problem solving.

What excites me most about working with data is the balance it offers: it’s both technical and conceptual, demanding mathematical precision, programming skills and a deep understanding of business context. I enjoy the challenge of translating complex questions into tangible, data-driven solutions that actually make a difference. For me, good data work doesn’t end with building a model or a pipeline. It’s about creating systems that are maintainable, impactful and adaptable to future needs. That combination of rigor, creativity and real-world relevance is what keeps me passionate about the field every single day.

Why did you specifically choose Plainsight?

There were a few things that immediately stood out to me about Plainsight. First and foremost, the variety of projects. In just my first months I already got to experience this since I’ve been directly involved in several very different assignments: from developing (Gen)AI solutions to data platform migrations across sectors like healthcare, insurance and media. That diversity is exactly what I was looking for. It keeps things dynamic and challenges you to constantly adapt your way of thinking. Every new project brings a fresh perspective, new technologies and different stakeholders, which is incredibly rewarding for someone who enjoys solving real business problems through data.

Another big reason was the genuine learning culture. The four-week Plainsight Academy bootcamp perfectly reflected that mindset. It wasn’t just about brushing up on the latest tools like PySpark, dbt, Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, but about sharing experiences, best practices and developing a common way of working. It’s rare to see a company invest that much time in internal knowledgebuilding. It showed me that continuous learning isn’t just a slogan here; it’s part of the DNA.

And finally, the people and the atmosphere really make Plainsight special. During the workation (a few days where we all stayed together to exchange ideas, learn from each other and simply have fun) I got to experience the team spirit first-hand. It captured what Plainsight stands for: ambitious projects, strong collaboration and a culture that values curiosity and connection just as much as technical excellence.

What was your first month at Plainsight like?

Fast-paced in the best way possible. From day one I was trusted to contribute to real client projects and take ownership of my work, while always having colleagues ready to help or brainstorm when needed. That combination of responsibility and support really stood out to me. It’s motivating to know you’re making an impact early on but never doing it alone.

What also made the first weeks so engaging was the variety of projects I got to experience. In just a short time, I collaborated with different teams across several domains, which gave me a great overview of how diverse Plainsight’s expertise really is. It keeps things exciting and constantly pushes you to learn new tools, technologies and ways of working. No two weeks have felt the same so far and I love that.

Outside of the technical side, I’ve also really enjoyed how easy it is to connect with people here. Whether it’s team lunches, after-work activities, conferences or the workation. Those moments outside of project work helped me feel part of the team right away. There’s a great balance here between working hard, sharing knowledge and simply enjoying the journey together.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I’d choose a road trip through Australia. I’ve always enjoyed trips that offer a bit of everything: discovering vibrant cities, exploring nature and ending with some well-deserved downtime by the beach. Australia seems to strike that balance perfectly. I can easily picture starting off in Sydney or Melbourne to soak up the culture and food scene, then heading inland to see the more rugged natural side of the country, to end the trip with some relaxing days soaking up the sun and vibe at the Whitsunday islands.

What appeals to me most is the mix of adventure and calm: hiking through national parks one day, then relaxing by the coast the next. I’m the type of traveler who plans things in detail, but I also like leaving room for spontaneous stops along the way. Australia feels like a great place for that kind of trip. Where you can cover a lot of ground, experience a lot of contrasts and still come home feeling recharged.

cURIOUS to know what Plainsight could mean for you?
