Meet Pieter

Pieter is not someone who entered the world of technology through a classic data-only path. His background is rooted in software development, digital innovation, operations and project delivery. Over more than 17 years, he has worked on enterprise platforms, IoT products, cloud transformations and development teams, gradually seeing how data became the thread connecting business questions, product decisions and technical architecture. That broad experience now comes together in his work around AI and GenAI. Pieter enjoys building practical systems that turn new technology into something teams can actually use: from secure engineering workflows and cloud-native platforms to MCP integrations, knowledge systems and AI-assisted tooling. At Plainsight, he brings a mix of hands-on technical curiosity, delivery experience, and a strong focus on making complex ideas operational.

We asked Pieter some thoughtful questions

Pieter, how did you discover your passion for data?

I would not say I started out as a pure data person. My route into data came through software, products and business problems. In e-commerce, I saw how analytics could reveal where customers were dropping off. In IoT projects, I saw how telemetry from elevators, connected consumer products or ventilation systems could become useful insight only when the full chain was designed well: devices, pipelines, storage, dashboards and decision-making. That is where data became interesting to me. Not as an isolated discipline, but as a way to make systems smarter and decisions less dependent on guesswork. Over the last few years, AI and GenAI added another layer to that. They make it possible to work with knowledge, code and context in ways that were not practical before, and I find that extremely exciting.

Why specifically did you choose Plainsight?

I chose Plainsight because it sits in exactly the space that currently gives me energy: data, AI, cloud engineering and real business impact. What attracted me was not only the technology, but also the mindset. Plainsight has a very open, direct way of working, and there is room to challenge ideas, experiment with new tools, and still care deeply about quality. I also like that Plainsight is building things with a long-term view. My work has always combined delivery, architecture, operations and people, and here those pieces fit together naturally. Whether it is helping clients with AI adoption, building internal tooling, or turning lessons learned into reusable practices, the focus is on making technology useful and reliable.

What was your first month at Plainsight like?

My first month was very hands-on. I quickly got involved in initiatives around AI tooling, secure software development, cloud infrastructure and knowledge-sharing inside the team. A lot of my attention went to making ideas concrete: turning rough concepts into working flows, checking what is technically feasible, and making sure solutions are robust enough to be used beyond a demo. What stood out most was the level of trust and openness. People are willing to share context, discuss trade-offs and move quickly, but without losing sight of quality. That combination suits me well. I like environments where you can take ownership, learn fast, and still build things in a structured way.

What is something about you that surprises people?

People sometimes assume that because I work a lot with AI and data, I must have followed a very linear technical path in that direction. In reality, my career has been much broader. I have worked as a developer, business analyst, project manager, operations manager, technology evangelist and digital innovation lead. I have also been responsible for teams, budgets, clients, delivery processes, marketing content and business development. That variety shaped how I look at technology today. I care about clean architecture and strong engineering, but I also care about adoption, communication and whether the solution solves a real problem. For me, the interesting work is often in the connection between those worlds.
