Meet Lander

Lander holds a degree in Computer Science with an AI specialization from VUB. He's worked as a data engineer, data scientist, and data lead at a startup in Eindhoven before joining Plainsight. He's most at home when cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and AI all connect into one coherent picture. Happiest in mountains, whether skiing or hiking.

We asked Lander some thoughtful questions

lander , how did you discover your passion for data?

From a young age, I was fascinated by electronics especially the automation of tasks. This passion led me to pursue a technical education in high school, where I was introduced to both programming and electronics. As I grew older, artificial intelligence started gaining more attention, and my focus gradually shifted from hardware to software. My curiosity about how programming languages work and what we can achieve with them sparked my passion for data. In my first job as a data engineer, I built a strong foundation in cloud architecture and ETL pipelines. Later, in my next role, I had the opportunity to combine this knowledge with AI applications. Seeing the full picture how AI, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines all connect made me realize just how deeply data fascinates me. Solving problems in this space energizes me, and I love working on challenges that bring data-driven solutions to life.

Why did you specifically choose Plainsight?

Since we spend so much of our lives working, I don’t just want to have an interesting job, I also want to work in a great environment with colleagues I genuinely enjoy spending time with. When I first connected with Plainsight, it was clear that company culture and team atmosphere were at the heart of the organization. After my meeting with David and Sander, I realized that Plainsight’s vision aligned perfectly with my own values and professional interests. That was the deciding factor for me. After just one month, I can already say with confidence that I made the right choice. The atmosphere, the people, and the knowledge within the team make this an ideal next step in my career.

What was your first month at Plainsight like?

During my first month at Plainsight, I was able to gain experience in PowerBI. Besides my experience in Databricks, I found it interesting to discover what PowerBI can do. I also got the chance to support the startup I was working for. This was important to me because I did not want to leave them to their fate. Therefore, I greatly appreciate the fact that Plainsight did their best to make this happen. Finally, I have already met a lot of new, great colleagues during the evening session, bouldering session, or just at the office.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Currently, I would love to travel to Nepal. Last summer I partially hiked the Alta Via 2 in the Dolomites with friends, and this was the most beautiful, but also most challenging, vacation that I have ever done. The atmosphere that is present in mountain huts between the people is just amazing. I think this atmosphere is even more present in a mountain country like Nepal and the climbs and views there are just even more breathtaking. If anyone has plans to do a multi-day hike in Nepal, I'm in!
