Agenda
14:00 - 14:30: Webinar - Databricks vs Microsoft Fabric: An Architect’s Decision Framework
14:30 - 14:45: Q&A
Abstract
Choosing between Databricks and Microsoft Fabric isn’t a feature checklist exercise; it’s an architecture decision shaped by cost model, operating model, governance, networking, and the people who will run it.
In this session, Sander Allert takes you into the mindset of a solution architect and compares the platforms through real-world scenarios:
Pricing & cost drivers: how Fabric capacity (CUs / SKUs) behaves as a shared pool across workloads, versus Databricks’ consumption model built around DBUs and underlying compute choices.
Power BI in the mix: what changes when your BI layer is Power BI; covering Fabric’s OneLake/Direct Lake-style patterns and common ways Power BI connects to Databricks (clusters/SQL warehouses, etc.).
Networking & hybrid readiness: typical enterprise patterns like private connectivity and on-prem integration; Databricks options such as VNet injection / Private Link, and Fabric options such as managed private endpoints plus on-premises data gateway approaches.
Architecture examples: from “single cloud workspace” setups to governed multi-domain estates; and fully hybrid scenarios where on-prem sources must be integrated securely.
Decision framework: when Fabric is the fastest path to value, when Databricks is the better fit, and when a combined approach makes sense.
After this session you'll...
leave with a clear set of decision criteria and a practical next step: a targeted platform assessment to validate fit, sizing, security/networking, and a realistic cost forecast.
Who should attend
data/analytics leaders, enterprise architects, platform owners, and teams actively evaluating one (or both) platforms.
Presenters: Sander Allert
